Desc: Les troupes israéliennes sont entrées samedi dans la bande de Gaza et ont affronté les militants du Hamas, marquant une escalade dans l'offensive qui a tué en une semaine au moins 466 Palestiniens. Le Conseil de sécurité de l'ONU devait se réunir dans la nuit pour discuter de la situation à Gaza, où Israël a lancé une opération terrestre, la première de cette envergure depuis l'évacuation de la bande de Gaza en 2005, après des bombardements par air et par mer du territoire contrôlé par le Hamas. Après l'entrée dans Gaza, des chars israéliens ont tiré sur des positions du Hamas dans le nord de Gaza, essuyant en retour des tirs de mortier, selon des témoins. Ils ont aussi bombardé un dépôt de fioul à Beit Lahiya provoquant un important incendie. Des explosions et des échanges de tirs étaient entendus dans plusieurs secteurs, alors que les troupes appuyées par des hélicoptères Apache avançaient dans la bande de Gaza. Les activistes palestiniens ont tiré des obus et fait exploser des bombes placées en bord de la route à leur passage. Un responsable militaire israélien a affirmé que des dizaines de "terroristes" avaient été tués dans des accrochages sur le terrain et les tirs d'artillerie et qu'il n'y avait "aucune perte côté israélien". De son côté, la branche armée du Hamas, les Brigades Ezzedine al-Qassam, a affirmé avoir tué ou blessé plusieurs soldats israéliens. Aucune confirmation n'a pu être obtenue de ces bilans. Un enfant palestinien a été tué et 11 ont été blessés par un tir d'obus de char dans la ville de Gaza, le premier décès recensé de l'offensive terrestre, selon des sources médicales. "Votre entrée à Gaza ne sera pas une promenade de santé et Gaza sera votre cimetière avec l'aide de Dieu", a affirmé un porte-parole du Hamas, Ismaïl Radwane, en lisant un communiqué sur la télévision du Hamas qui a affiché à l'écran un bandeau affirmant que la "résistance a préparé des centaines d'hommes et de femmes pour mener des opérations de martyr (attentats suicide)". Le Hamas a aussi menacé d'enlever des soldats israéliens. Le président palestinien Mahmoud Abbas, qui doit se rendre lundi à l'ONU à New York, a condamné l'opération terrestre et réclamé une réunion urgente du Conseil de sécurité. L'armée israélienne a annoncé que l'offensive terrestre durerait de "nombreux jours", la présidence du Conseil expliquant qu'elle visait à "prendre le contrôle" des secteurs de Gaza d'où sont tirées les roquettes contre Israël. Un "nombre important de forces" participent à l'offensive terrestre, a dit l'armée, alors que le ministre de la Défense Ehud Barak a signé "un ordre de mobilisation urgente de milliers de réservistes". Depuis le début le 27 décembre de l'offensive destinée notamment à mettre un terme aux tirs de roquettes palestiniennes, au moins 466 Palestiniens dont 77 enfants et 23 femmes ont été tués, et 2.360 blessés, selon un dernier bilan de sources médicales palestiniennes. Pendant la même période, quelque 500 roquettes palestiniennes tirées de Gaza ont fait quatre morts en Israël et une quinzaine de blessés. L'aviation israélienne a dans le même temps mené des dizaines de raids samedi, tuant au moins 25 Palestiniens, dont 16 dans une mosquée et deux chefs locaux du Hamas, selon les secours palestiniens. Malgré l'offensive, les activistes palestiniens ont continué à tirer des roquettes. Au moins 21 engins ont visé le Sud d'Israël dont six après le début de l'opération terrestre, selon la police. Trois personnes ont été blessées. M. Barak a en outre affirmé que son pays était prêt à toute éventualité à sa frontière nord avec le Liban, dans un avertissement voilé au mouvement chiite Hezbollah qui avait combattu l'Etat hébreu en 2006.
