Desc: In 2006 Blake Nelson published a young adult novel entitled Paranoid Park, that has been adapted into a film by director Gus Van Sant, which was released in 2007. Blake's story deals with a 16 year old skateboarder who accidentally kills a security guard at a skate park. Both the novel and the film take place in Portland, Oregon, although Blake/Van Sant's Paranoid Park is a skate park located on Portland's East Side.
The story revolves around a teenage skateboarder who accidentally kills a security guard.
It premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival as one of the 22 films in competition, and won the extra-special 60th anniversary prize. |

Sci-fi novelist and futurist Alexander Besher is releasing his latest novel "The Manga Man" via QR/2D barcode on a limited edition T-shirt, in partnership with mobile platform pioneer Winksite.com.
Multimedia available through the barcode includes a link to the full text of the novel (for mobile phone or web browser), a reading selection from "The Manga Man," neo-silent film inspired by "Manga Man" directed by Nara Denning, videography by Maria Karpoukhina, original tracks by composer William Collin Snavely (aka Diagram of Suburban Chaos), and more.

Though most of the novel is set in Afghanistan, these parts of the movie were mostly shot in Kashgar, China due to the dangers of filming in Afghanistan at the time of the making of the movie.[1] Much of the film's dialogue is in Dari (Afghan Persian) (with English subtitles), and English. Most of the actors involved with the film, including the child actors, are native speakers. Filming wrapped up on December 21, 2006 and the movie was expected to be released on November 2, 2007. However, after concern of the safety of the young actors in the film, its release date has been pushed back six weeks to December 14, 2007. |
