Killer Whales (Orcas) - Ballard Locks sea lions catching steelhead - Muckleshoot and Squamish indigineous fishing
About those Ballard Locks sea lions, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife reports this year:
"Previous experience with California sea lions at Seattle's Ballard Locks demonstrates the risk these animals can pose to vulnerable fish stocks. From the early 1980s through the mid-1990s, resource managers tried a variety of methods to deter sea lions from preying on Lake Washington winter steelhead. Those efforts were unsuccessful, and sea lion predation continued until the run was effectively destroyed. Today, Lake Washington winter steelhead remain at critically low levels and the population is not expected to recover. "

ORHF Puget Sound Steam Special May 19th 2007, SP 4449 UP 844
![]() |
Desc: This steam double header with SP #4449 and UP #844 from Tacoma to Everett and back was my best steam excursion ever! I would like to thank the Barriger Library, Union Pacific Railroad, BNSF Railway, Friends of the 4449, Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation, the Washington State Historical Society, and Conductor Reed Jackson for making this trip possible. A coach seat was $299, and Dome $399. Double headed steam on a Class I mainline was truly priceless! Being that this was the same day as my 30th birthday made the trip even more memorable. |
Puget Sound Information Challenge
![]() |
Desc: As part of this year's Environmental Information Symposium, EPA will be holding the Puget Sound Information Challenge. The Puget Sound Information Challenge is the first EPA data driven mass collaboration designed to bring together environmental information on important factors involving the current state of an environmental issue. There are two goals for the participants of this two-day challenge: the first is to utilize available resources to bring together and deliver environmental information that will be useful to the Puget Sound Partnership. The second is to discover successes and difficulties in our current information access environment. The latter goal will help inform EPA's path forward to improve access to environmental information.

The water is calm Two boys in Red Head life jackets and the coffee is hot, before you know it there are killer whales sighted on the port bow! This is a summer day with P.S. Express.
We offer all day sightseeing excursions to the San Juan Islands with whale watching and a stop along the way included or half day whale watching and wildlife tours from Port Townsend. No matter which tour you pick, you will find our vessels are fast clean and comfortable and our crew ready and willing to show you a wonderful day out on the water.
If you're with a group looking for a fun-packed tour out on the water, P.S. Express offers many great opportunities. Check out the group tour page for ideas on how your group can enjoy the water side of Port Townsend or Friday Harbor.
