"THE SAFRAN PILOTS
In 1997, John Safran rose to prominence on the ABC TV series "Race Around The World". In 1998, the ABC commissioned two pilot episodes for a series that was meant to showcase Safran's irreverent guerilla video style. The station hated the results, which were never broadcast. Fans could only see them if they managed to get their hands on a VHS copy from a friend, or an extremely low-quality copy in Real Video format.
UNTIL NOW!
These files have been transferred from VHS tape (1st gen copy) to DVD using a HDD recorder, then ripped xvid format for easy filesharing. Team Captain Productions is working on a DVD set incorporating not only these videos in the highest quality possible, but also EVERY short that Safran made for Race Around The World, the Channel 7 series The Late Report (1999), and other goodies! Keep an eye out for more announcements...

Scoala cu Clasele I-VIII Nr.15 Bacau a devenit Scoala cu clasele I-VIII "Dr.Alexandru Safran", in cadrul unei ceremonii care va ramâne adânc gravata in istoria acestei unitati scolare. Au fost prezenti distinsii oaspeti din Elvatia si Franta, prof.univ.dr. Avinoam Safran - fiul marelui rabin, sef al Clinicii de Oftalmologie a Spitalului Universitar din Geneva, prof.univ.dr. Esther Starobinski-Safran, de la Facultatea de filozofie a Universitatii din Geneva, fiica marelui rabin, si sotul ei, juristul Joseph Starobinski, de la Curtea de Justitie din Geneva, prof.univ.dr. Carol Iancu, de la Universitatea "Paul Valery" din Montpellier, Primarul Bacaului, reprezentanti ai Prefecturii Bacau, ai Consiliului Judetean, ai Consiliului Local, ai Universitatii de Stat, ai Universitatii "George Bacovia" si ai sucursalei Bacau a Universitatii "Spiru Haret", ai Inspectoratului Scolar Judetean si ai Casei Corpului Didactic "Grigore Tabacaru". Oaspetii au vizitat unitatea scolara si au asistat, apoi, in sala de sport, la un program artistic oferit de elevii scolii. Emotionante au fost succintele discursuri ale celor doi copii ai Marelui Rabin Alexandru Safran, prof.univ.dr. Avinoam Safran si prof.univ.dr. Esther Starobinski-Safran, care au evocat marea dragoste a tatalui lor pentru România, pentru români, pentru limba româna si pentru bacauani. Membrii familiei Safran au oferit o importanta suma (ramasa deocamdata confidentiala) pentru premierea celor mai merituosi elevi ai scolii, alesi de un juriu format din cadre didactice ale scolii si câte un reprezentant al Inspectoratului Scolar Judetean si al Casei Corpului Didactic "Grigore Tabacaru". In partea finala a manifestarii, a fost lansata editia in limba româna a lucrarii biografice "Alexandru Safran. O viata de lupta, o raza de lumina", scrisa de prof.univ.dr. Carol Iancu, de la Universitatea "Paul Valery" din Montpellier. Despre carte si despre coplesitoarea personalitate a dr.Alexandru Safran au vorbit autorul, prof.univ.dr.Carol Iancu, si editorul cartii, Ticu Goldstein. Festivitatile au continuat sâmbata, 10 mai 2008, de la ora 10.30, centrul de greutate fiind sesiunea de comunicari stiintifice "Contributia unor personalitati locale la dezvoltarea patrimoniului cultural românesc si universal". |
